Doctoral students with doctoral grants and doctoral studentships have the right to receive this funding for a total of 48 full-time months. The Higher Education Ordinance allows the Faculty to grant an extension if special reason exists, such as due to an elected post within the student union (HEO).

Attendance, except with respect to the Faculty Board, Teacher Nominating Committee and other permanent Faculty committees, must be proven with an excerpt from the attendance list.
The doctoral student must personally request extension of his or her funded study period due to an appointment. You must submit the application for extension, together with copies of decisions related to appointments, to the Head of the department, who will make the decision on extension at the department level and send a recommendation for other extensions to the Faculty for determination. The costs are charged to the departments’ regular budget.
Compensation to doctoral students whose studies are funded by means other than a doctoral grant or doctoral studentship (i.e., industry-based doctoral students) must be equivalent, but the form of compensation may need to be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
